TCU advances to NCAA National Championship Horned Frogs post their best regional finish in school history
May 12, 2007
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- With a third-place finish after Saturday's final round of the NCAA Central Regional in Ann Arbor, Mich., the TCU women's golf team has advanced to its first NCAA National Championship since 2000. It's the fourth time in head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin's 13 seasons that TCU has reached the NCAA National Championship. Play begins May 22 in Daytona Beach, Fla. "It's awesome to advance to the national championship," Ravaioli-Larkin said. "We haven't been there in several years. "We really played good team golf. Some of our players hadn't been in this situation before, but they handled it well and helped put us in a position to win." The 23rd-ranked Horned Frogs posted their best regional finish in school history. TCU's final-round 303 gave it a 54-hole score of 883. No. 9 USC won the event with an 869, while No. 3 Georgia was second at 880. The Frogs finished ahead of three teams (No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 10 Tennessee and No. 15 Arizona) ranked above them. TCU seniors Catherine Matranga and Elin Emanuelsson posted top-10 finishes. Matranga tied for seventh with Emanuelsson in a deadlock for ninth. Both carded final-round 76s. Freshman Megan O'Donnell recorded TCU's best score on Saturday. Her 74 also equaled a career-low round and allowed her to finish in a tie for 33rd. In all five of her tournaments this season, O'Donnell posted her best score over the final 18 holes. Camille Blackerby and Valentine Derrey both had final-round 77s as they finished in ties for 24th and 46th, respectively. Team Scores TCU Scores
