Chapel Hill, N.C. -- The University of New Mexico women's golf team carded a second round 303 to drop one spot to fifth place at the 2001 NCAA East Regional in Chapel Hill, N.C. New Mexico's tournament score of 602 (299-303 * +26) places them in good position to claim a spot in the NCAA field heading into final round action tomorrow. The East Regional will send eight teams and two individuals to the 2001 NCAA Women's Golf Championships slated for May 22-25 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

Tournament leader Duke continutes to dominate the field shooting a 291 and is +1 through two rounds (286-291=577). Auburn and Georgia maintain position at second and third with tournament scores of 584 and 595. Making a big leap in the standings was South Carolina who jumped from ninth place to fourth with a second round score of 293 (598 tournament score).

The Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill is hosting the Regional. The course plays to a par 72 on 6,211 yards. Tournament format includes 18-holes each day to comprise a 54-hole tournament. The four top scores of each round will count towards the team total.

Senior Ryley Webb continues to lead the Lobos individually. Webb shot a 74 (+2) today and is 146 for the tournament. She sits alone in fifth place and is eight shots out of first place held by Duke's V. Nirapathpongporn who is -6 for the tournament with a score of 138.

New Mexico's Elisa Kase two-round score of 150 (75-75 * +6) places her tied for 20th place. Junior Claudia Ferrini had a good round shooting a 75 (+3 ) and is tied for 31st with a 152. Freshman Kristi Larsen is tied for 45th with a 154 while teammate Kellyn Newman is tied for 69th with a 158 (+14).
