Women's Golf In Fourth Place at NCAA East Regional Lobo Senior Ryley Webb Tied for Fourth Individually

The University of New Mexico women's golf team sits tied for fourth place after the first round of the 2001 NCAA East Regional in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill is hosting the NCAA Regional. The course plays to a par 72 on 6,211 yards Tournament format includes 18-holes each day to comprise a 54-hole tournament. The four top scores of each round will count towards the team total.
The Lobos carded a first round score of 299 (+11) which placed them tied with the San Jose State Spartans. UNM is 13 shots behind tournament leader Duke who shot a 2-under round of 286. The BlueDevils were the only team to shoot under par today. Next is Auburn (294) in second and Georgia (297) in third followed by UNM and SJSU.
Leading the Lobos is senior Ryley Webb who is currently tied for fourth place with a first round score of 72 (E). Senior Elisa Kase and freshman Kristi Larsen are tied for 20th with identical scores of 75. Junior Claudia Ferrini and freshman Kellyn Newman round out the Lobo squad tied for 43rd place with 77s.
UNM is hoping to claim one of eight spots slated for the NCAA Women's Golf Championships May 22-25. Three regions, West, Central and East, will determine participants in the 2001 NCAA Championships. Each region will send eight teams and two individuals not affiliated with those teams to the national championship. Stetson University will host the 2001 NCAA Championship, May 22-25, in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The Mission Inn Golf & Tennis Resort will host the tournament.
