STANFORD, Calif. - San Diego State recorded a solid first day by shooting 310 at the NCAA West Regional in Stanford, Calif. The Aztecs are in a tie for 14th with the top eight teams advancing to the NCAA Championships. SDSU is seven strokes out of eighth place and eight strokes out of sixth place with two days remaining. It is the first NCAA tournament appearance for SDSU since 2001.

Junior Heather MacRae led SDSU on Thursday with a three-over 75. MacRae had four birdies in her round, but also had five bogeys and a double bogey on the day to put her in 29th position. The transfer from McLennan junior college has postseason experience as she won the individual 2001 National Junior College Championship.

Senior Shayna Miyajima fired a five-over 77 and sits in a tie for 43rd. Miyajima is playing in her second NCAA tournament as she also played with SDSU in 2001. Senior Sandy Kim also played in 2001 and she fired an eight-over 80 in Thursday's round. Kim had 13 pars and only five bogeys but also recorded a triple bogey on the ninth hole.

All-MWC selection Jenna Wilson opened with a six-over 78. Wilson was one-over heading to the back nine but was five over on the final nine holes. Toni Lutz fired a nine-over 81, but turned things around after a quadruple bogey as she was only two over on the back nine.

SDSU is looking for its first NCAA championship appearance in school history.
