SUNRIVER, Ore. - New Mexico carded a second round Mountain West Conference Championship record 280 today and is currently tied for the team lead with UNLV at the 2003 MWC Womens Golf Championship being played on the Meadows Course (Par 71/5,851) at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. The three-time defending champion Lobos trailed the Rebels by 11 strokes heading into the second day of the tournament, but improved their team score by 36 strokes from the first round to enter the final 18 holes tied with UNLV at 596. The Rebels also improved on the second day by 14 stokes after firing a team total of 291. Colorado State is in third with a 36-hole total of 612, followed by BYU (619), San Diego State (622) and Wyoming (660). Individually, New Mexico junior Katrina Leckovic moved into first place after carding a MWC Championship single-round record of 67, breaking the 68 mark set by former Lobos Elisa Kase in 2001 and Kristi Larson in 2002. Leckovic improved by seven strokes from her first day total of 74 for a two-under 36-hole score of 141 (74-67). UNLV freshman Sunny Oh is five strokes behind the leader with a three-over 146 after shooting a one-over 73 today.
The final round of play will begin at 10 a.m. (PDT) Saturday morning at the Meadows Course at Sunriver Resort.
