UNLV Is First Round Leader At 2004 MWC Women's Golf Championship

UNLV senior Elena Kurokawa is the individual leader after shooting a 68.

BEND, Ore. - UNLV holds a two-stroke lead over four-time tournament champion New Mexico after the first round of the 2004 Mountain West Conference Women's Golf Championship played on the Meadows Course (Par 71/5,851) at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. The Rebels shot an opening round team total of five-over 289, followed by the Lobos at seven-over 291. Colorado State is currently third at 294, followed by BYU (297), San Diego State (301) and Wyoming (329).

UNLV senior Elena Kurokawa is the individual leader after shooting a three-under 68 today, tying the league championship low for the first round set by former New Mexico Lobo Kristi Larsen in 2002. Kurokawa holds a two-stroke lead over 2003 champion Katrina Leckovic of New Mexico and Margaret Gibby of BYU, whom each fired a one-under 70 in the opening round.
