New Mexico Leads After First Round Of MWC Women's Golf Championship

SUNRIVER, Ore. - The University of New Mexico tied a Mountain West Conference first round record with a team-low 293 during the first of the Women's Golf Championship today on the Meadows Course (Par 71/6,180) at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. The two-time defending champion Lobos have a three-shot lead over second place San Diego State who finished with an 18-hole total of 296. Colorado State is currently third at 301, followed by UNLV (305), BYU (309) and Wyoming (325).

Individually, New Mexico junior Kristi Larsen tied an MWC Tournament low and women's championship course record with a 68. Sophomore Shayna Miyajima of San Diego State is in second place after carding a 71, followed by Colorado State freshman Lynette Duran in third with a 72.

The second round of play will begin at 9 a.m. (PT) Tuesday morning, with the final 18 holes being played Wednesday at 8 a.m.
