UNM Finishes in Sixth at ASU Invite Lobos finish 13 strokes behind tournament winner Cal.

Tempe, Ariz. - The 11th ranked University of New Mexico women's golf team finished in sixth place the 2003 PING/ASU Invitational today in Tempe. The Lobos shot a final round even par 288 to finish with a tournament score of 889. California took the team title with a score of 876, followed by Texas in second (877) and UCLA in third (878). New Mexico's Kailin Downs tied a career low of 69 (-3) in the final round and finished with a tournament score of 216 (E), good for fourth place. Down's tournament 216 is also a career low for the sophomore from Bend, Ore. Junior Kristi Larsen and sophomore Christina Spence both finished tied for 21st place with 225s. Larsen completed the round shooting a 75 (+3) while Spence shot even par 72 in the final round. Junior Katrina Leckovic saved her best round for last scoring a 72 (E) and finishing with a three-round score of 226. Leckovic finished tied for 31st. Sophomore Shannon Johnson finished with a tournament score of 235 shooting a final round 75 (+3) and placing tied for 68th. The tournament was played at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe. The course played to a par 72 on 6,143 yards.
