UNM Tied For Fifth Place at ASU Invite Lobos sit 14 strokes behind tournament leader UCLA.

TEMPE, Ariz. - The 11th ranked University of New Mexico women's golf team completed the first round of the PING/ASU Invitational shooting a first round 296 and are tied for fifth place with Southern California. The top-five include tournament leader UCLA (282), Texas (285) in second, California in third with an even par 288, and Arizona, who is in fourth place with a 294. New Mexico's Kailin Downs shot an opening round 71 (-1) to pace the Lobos. Downs is tied for fifth place. Junior Kristi Larsen, who suffered a sprained ankle at the UCLA Bruin Classic, shot a first round 73 (+1) and is tied for 15th place. Junior Katrina Leckovic finished the first round with a 75 (+3) is tied for 35th, while sophomore Christina Spence shot an opening round 77 (+5). Spence is tied for 52nd place. Sophomore Shannon Johnson struggled a bit shooting an 84 (+12) and is tied for 88th. Second round action begins tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. (MST) at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe.
