Wyoming Cowgirls in 15th After Two Rounds of the Hawaii Rainbow Invitational Senior Jana Johnson highlights second round scores for UW.
March 28, 2001
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
With two rounds completed at the University of Hawaii Dr. Donnis Thompson Rainbow Invitational, the Wyoming women's golf team is in 15th place with a 36-hole total of 661. The 18-team field includes some of the top women's golf programs in the nation, led by Arizona, which leads heading into Thursday's final round with a 594 team score. The second round for the Cowgirls was highlighted by senior Jana Johnson, who shot an eight-over par round of 80 on Wednesday. Johnson is tied for 59th in the field of 97 golfers. She has a two-round score of 162. Natalie Bulbis of Arizona and Christi Cano of Oklahoma State share the individual lead at 142. "Jana (Johnson) played a nice round today with an 80," said Wyoming women's golf coach Jill Johnson. "That is the lowest round for us in the first two days of competition. Alison (McGuire) and Tara (Ludwig) also played well today with rounds of 84. "Jessi (Santesson) began the tournament with an 81 in the first round, but struggled some today, shooting an 87. I know she wants to come back tomorrow in the final round and put up a low score to finish up strong. "As a team, we have played solid, but we haven't had anyone really be able to put together an exceptional round. Tomorrow, we still have an opportunity to move up a position with a strong round. We just have to focus on playing each shot and not letting one or two bad holes affect our concentration." The final 18-hole round is scheduled to be played on Thursday. The tournament is being played at the Olomana Golf Links in Waimanalo, Hawaii. The course measures 6,075 yards and plays to a par of 72. Below are Wyoming's individual results and the team scores entering Thursday's final round. Wyoming individual results
