New Mexico has been invited to particpate in the 2009 Preseason WNIT. The Lobos will host Northern Colorado on Friday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. MT. Six MWC teams (BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, TCU, UNLV and Utah) have made appearances in the preseason tournament, with BYU (2006), New Mexico (2005) and TCU (2007) advancing to the quarterfinals. The MWC holds a 10-7 all-time record in the Preseason WNIT.
The Preseason WNIT features a three-game guarantee format. The event opens Friday, Nov. 13, with first-round games. Second-round games will be played Nov. 15-16, semifinals will be Nov. 18-19, and the championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 22. Teams that lose in the first two rounds will play consolation games on the second weekend, Nov. 20-22. All games are hosted by participating schools, and sites are announced by the end of the preceding round.
COACHES CORNER
Utah head coach Elaine Elliott enters her 27th season at the helm of the Utes, posting a league-best 559 career wins, and is one of only 29 active coaches to reach the 550-win plateau. TCU skipper Jeff Mittie has amassed 367 overall wins, while New Mexico's Don Flanagan has also reached the 300-win mark (308 career wins). In her second stint at San Diego State, Beth Burns begins her 12th year, while Ardie McInelly and Jeff Judkins enter their eighth seasons at Air Force and BYU, respectively. Joe Legerski will lead the Cowgirls in his sixth season, while Kristen Holt (Colorado State) and Kathy Olivier (UNLV) will return for their second seasons in the league.
1,000+ SCORERS
The Mountain West returns two 1,000 point scorers from the 2008-09 season. Utah senior Kalee Whipple currently ranks 16th all-time in the MWC record books for career points with 1,389. New Mexico senior Amy Beggin reached the milestone last season and now has 1,063 career points. San Diego State has two players within reach of 1,000 points in seniors Quenese Davis (922) and Jené Morris (919).
DOUBLE UP
Sixteen of the 25 MWC student-athletes that recorded at least one double-double last season will return for the 2009-10 season. The group is led by UNLV sophomore Jamie Smith, who earned 13 double-doubles in her first season with the Rebels, setting a new school and MWC freshman record.

Ten of 15 all-MWC selections return for the 2009-10 season, including Newcomer of the Year TK LaFleur (TCU), Freshman of the Year Jamie Smith (UNLV), Defensive Player of the Year Jené Morris (San Diego State) and the 6th Player of the Year Emma Langford (Wyoming).
