COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Two Mountain West Conference institutions were selected to host the 2011 NCAA Women's Basketball First and Second Rounds, announced today by the NCAA DI Women's Basketball Committee. The Pit in Albuquerque and the Jon. M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City were selected as two of the 16 first- and second-round sites.

The University of New Mexico has been a host site for the NCAA Women's Tournament on five previous occasions (2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009). The Lobos advanced to the NCAA Tournament in three of those years, including a Sweet 16 run in 2003. The Pit was also the regional site of the Utah's Elite Eight run in 2006.

The 2011 event will mark the second time that University of Utah has hosted the preliminary rounds of the NCAA Women's Tournament. In 2001, the Utes defeated Fairfield and Iowa in the Huntsman Center in opening round play to advance to their first Sweet Sixteen.

Overall, the MWC holds a 17-27 record in the NCAA Championship. The league has made 27 appearances, with BYU, New Mexico and Utah each advancing to the Sweet 16 in the 10-year history. Last season, the league sent three teams to the championship, with San Diego State and Utah advancing to the second round.
