ATLANTA, Ga. --- The New Mexico women's basketball team ranked No. 22 on the 2007-08 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll released Monday. This award honors college basketball teams throughout the nation that carry the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the entire season based on the nomination submitted by WBCA-member head coaches.
The Lobos finished the year with a 3.308 grade point average. UNM is coming off a 20-13 season and their seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. The Lobos return all but three players in 2008-09 and welcome back all-MWC selection Amy Beggin. New Mexico has 11 returners and two newcomers heading into the new year.
MWC institutions have been honored on the WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll in previous years. Wyoming earned the honor in 2001-02, 2002-03 and 2003-04. The Lobos achieved the same feat in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 academic years.
