Women's Basketball Signs McDermott Oregon product to join Utes in Fall of 2007.
May 8, 2007 SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah women's basketball head coach Elaine Elliott has announced the signing of Josi McDermott to a national letter-of-intent this afternoon. McDermott is a 5-11 wing from Ashland, Ore., "Josi is a promising young wing player with a great basketball I.Q.," noted Elliott. McDermott is fresh off of a senior campaign that saw her earn Player of the Year accolades in the Southern Sky Conference. In addition, she earned second-team all-state honors and was selected to play in the Northwest Shootout where the all-star teams from Oregon battle the all-star teams from Washington. "I'm thrilled and really flattered," McDermott said in an article from the Ashland Daily Tidings on April 28, 2007. "It was nerve-racking up until the day they called. I just had no idea where I was going to go. It was the best phone call of my life." Josi comes from solid basketball lineage. Her dad, Brian McDermott, is the head men's coach at Southern Oregon University. Her brother, Josh, will be a junior on the men's basketball team at SOU. Her dad's cousin, Greg McDermott, is the head men's basketball coach at Iowa State University.
