Lady Frogs announce annual award winners
Women's Basketball
April 24, 2007 FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's basketball team capped its 2006-07 season on Sunday with its annual awards banquet held at Colonial Country Club. Earning Player of the Year honors was junior guard Adrianne Ross, who added to her ever-expanding collection of awards during the 2006-07 season. A native of Hobbs, N.M., Ross led the Mountain West Conference in scoring (17.3) and steals (93). Her performance earned her Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America, Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year and First Team All-Mountain West Conference. In addition to Player of the Year honors, Ross split the Lady Frogs' Offensive Player of the Year Award with senior guard Ashley Davis. Davis led the Mountain West Conference in three-point field-goal percentage (42.2) and fifth in the league in scoring (14.3). A native of San Antonio, Texas, Davis was a Second Team All-MWC selection and was the only player to start all 32 games. Senior forward Hanna Biernacka also earned two awards including the Academic Award and Janice Dzuik Award. After becoming eligible to play on Dec. 17 after transferring from LSU, Biernacka ranked third on the team in scoring (12.1) and garnered MWC Honorable Mention honors despite only playing in 23 of TCU's 32 games. Biernacka also finished second on the team in rebounding with an average of 5.3 rebounds per game. Earning the Defensive Player of the Year Award was junior guard Moneka Knight, who totaled 36 steals and was often matched against the opponents top guard. Regarded as TCU's quickest player, Knight also led TCU with 90 assists. Freshman guard Danielle Nunn was named Freshman of the Year after averaging 5.4 points and 2.4 rebounds, while playing in 29 games despite numerous injuries. The Arlington, Texas, native also averaged 14.1 minutes per game.
On the year, the Lady Frogs advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh year in a row and finished with a 21-11 record, while tying for second in the Mountain West Conference with a league mark of 11-5. TCU lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Ole Miss, who turned out to be the Cinderella of the tournament by advancing to the Elite 8 before falling to eventual National Champion Tennessee.
