Mountain West Announces Women's Basketball Co-Players of the Week - Feb. 13, 2012 CSU's Kim Mestdagh and SDSU's Chelsea Hopkins share the weekly honor
Feb. 13, 2012 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State guard/forward Kim Mestdagh and San Diego State point guard Chelsea Hopkins have earned Mountain West Women's Basketball Co-Players of the Week honors for games played from Feb. 6-12, 2012. It is the first weekly award of the season for Mestdagh and the fourth of her career. For Hopkins, it is the second weekly honor in her first season in the league. Mestdagh, a senior from Ieper, Belgium, scored 21 points in the Rams lone game of the week, a 61-59 win over TCU at Moby Arena. The win kept CSU in sole possession of second place in the MW standings and was the Rams first win over TCU in thirteen years. In addition to her team-high points, Mestdagh recorded a career-high eight assists, had four rebounds and two steals. She shot 47.1 percent from the field (8-17), including 38.5 percent from long distance (5-13). Hopkins, a junior from Las Vegas, Nev., recorded a double-double in the Aztecs only game of the week, a 77-64 win over UNLV at Viejas Arena. With the win, SDSU remains in sole possession of first place in the MW standings. Hopkins scored 12 points and assisted on 12 baskets, the only double-figure assist game in league play this season. She also had six rebounds, one block and a steal. After 13 lead changes and the game being tied for the eighth time at 43, Hopkins contributed three assists and three rebounds during an 8-0 run that put SDSU in the lead for good in the second half. She was 30.0 percent from the field (3-10) and 66.7 percent from the free throw line (6-9).
