COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State guard Chelsea Hopkins earned Mountain West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for games played from Jan. 21-27, 2013. It is the third honor of the season for Hopkins, her second consecutive, and the fifth of her MW career.
Hopkins, a senior from Las Vegas, Nev., led San Diego State to a 2-0 record last week with a 69-57 home victory over Nevada and a 63-39 road win at New Mexico. She recorded her nation-leading third triple-double of the season versus Nevada on Jan. 23 with a career-high 25 points to go with 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The triple-double is the seventh in MW history and Hopkins is the only MW player to record multiple triple-doubles in a single season. It was her second triple-double in a three-game stretch. With the Aztecs trailing the Wolf Pack, 46-42, Hopkins tallied 11 points in a decisive 13-0 run that put SDSU ahead to stay, 55-46. At New Mexico, Hopkins notched her sixth straight double-digit scoring effort of the year with 11 points, while adding game highs of seven rebounds and five assists.
For the week, Hopkins was 12-of-28 (.429) from the floor, including 2-of-5 (.400) from three-point land, and hit 10-of-13 (.769) from the free throw line. She averaged 18.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.0 steals over the two games. Hopkins also recorded a blocked shot against the Lobos, her fifth of the season.
