Air Force Coasts To 74-52 Victory Over Chadron State Beck scores 21 and Cultra adds 19 to lead Falcons to first win of the season.

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - A big first-half lifted the Air Force women's basketball team to a 74-52 win over Chadron State Thursday night in Clune Arena. Raimee Beck scored 21 points and Brooke Cultra added 19 to lead the way for the Falcons, who improved to 1-1 on the season. Chadron State dropped to 0-3. Beck recorded her first-career double-double, tying a career high with the 21 points and setting a career-best with 11 rebounds. The 19 points for Cultra was a career-high. The senior also finished with nine rebounds for the second-straight game to start the season. Kim Kreke had a career-high 13 rebounds had a season-best four blocks to go with seven points. Stevie Puentes notched a career-high 11points, sinking 3-of-3 three-point baskets off the bench for the Falcons. Chadron State kept the game from getting out of hand by sinking 12 three-point baskets. Tabitha Gutierrez led the Eagles off the bench, scoring a team-high 18 points. Gutierrez was a scorching 6-for-6 from three-point land, all in the second half. Sunni Busch also reached double-figures in scoring for Chadron State, with 11 points and six rebounds. The Falcons sank six three-pointers in the first-half to race out to a 39-18 halftime lead. Air Force shot 40.3 percent from the field for the game, and made 41.2 percent from three-point land. The Falcons continued to shoot well from the free-throw stripe, making 17of-19 attempts, good for an 89.5 percentage. Freshman Anna Gault made her first start for Air Force, scoring two points and dishing out an assist in 23 minutes. Fellow freshmen Jamela Satterfield and Amber Wilmore saw their first action as Falcons. Satterfield calmly drilled a three-point basket in her first shot attempt and finished the night with four points and six rebounds in 17 minutes. Wilmore saw two minutes of action in reserve.
Junior Kathleen Schjodt also earned her first-career start at forward, scoring five points and grabbing two rebounds in 22 minutes. Liz Dunsworth also had a productive 17 minutes off the bench, scoring five points and grabbing five rebounds. Jenny Bandi also got into the game, playing three minutes in reserve. Air Force returns to action Saturday, Nov. 22, hosting Milwaukee. Tipoff is at noon. |
