Air Force senior Shannon Buck couldn't solve Luke Shields of Boise State on Sunday at the 2005 Wilson/ITA Region VII Men's Tennis Championships. Buck fell to Shields in the singles final, 6-2, 6-3, then partnered with fellow senior Trevor Johnson to lose the doubles finals to Shields and Thomas Shoeck, 8-1.

Despite losing the singles final, Buck earned an automatic entry to the National Indoor Championships, held Nov. 3-6 at Ohio State University. He is the first Air Force player to qualify for the National Indoor Tournament.

Buck, who was the tournament's No. 3 seed, survived three three-set matches, including a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 semifinal win over the No. 2-seeded Adam Holmstrom of Denver, in his five victories en route to the finals. Buck advanced farther in a regional tournament than any Air Force player in history.

Buck and Johnson, the tournament's 10th-seeded doubles team, defeated the Nos. 2, 3 and 6 seeds before facing Shields and Schoeck in the finals.
