Easley Era Ends UNLV head coach will not have his contract renewed.
June 24, 2003 LAS VEGAS - UNLV men's tennis coach Dr. Larry Easley will not have his contract renewed, interim athletics director Fred Albrecht announced Tuesday.
The terms of Easley's contract will be honored through June 30, 2004, but he is no longer the program's head coach, effective immediately.
Easley, 54, leaves as the second-winningest coach in Rebel history with a record of 141-120 but the four-time conference coach of the year has seen his program struggle of late, with a 33-50 record in the last four seasons, including a 2-14 overall mark (0-7 vs. Mountain West Conference teams) in 2003.
UNLV won three consecutive Big West Conference titles under Easley in 1994-96 while former Rebel Luke Smith won the 1997 NCAA singles title and also teamed with Tim Blenkiron to earn the national doubles crown.
Easley's career coaching record stands at 208-143, including three seasons at Long Beach State from 1985-87.
