Colorado Springs, Colo. ­ The individual portion of the 2000 NCAA Division I Men¹s Tennis Championship hosted by the University of Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Center in Athens, Ga., gets underway Wednesday and runs through Sunday, May 28. The Mountain West Conference will be represented by three singles players and two doubles teams.

Two of the Mtn. West¹s three singles players are seeded in the 9-16 group in the 64-player singles draw. New Mexico senior Matt Amgwerd will face Dennis Lundberg from Tulane in a 3:30 p.m. first round match. San Diego State senior Alex Waske plays Michal Chmela of LSU in his first round match at 2:30 p.m. The only unseeded singles player from the league is SDSU freshman Oliver Maiberger who meets Josh Goffi from Clemson in the first round at 10:30 a.m.

Doubles play gets underway on Thursday with New Mexico¹s team of Amgwerd and Nic Dubey facing Doug Root and Ramsey Smith from Duke. BYU¹s duo of Gert Vilms and Damien Ward must face a No. 5-8 seed in the opening round. The Cougar team will play Baylor¹s team of David Hodge and Mark Williams.
