ATHENS, Ga. - University of New Mexico senior Takeshi Itoh will face Ramsey Smith of Duke University in the first round of the 2001 NCAA MenÕs Tennis Championships in Athens, Ga. The match will take place on Thursday, with the time to be announced later this evening.

Itoh compiled a 22-9 singles record this year and was named to the Mountain West all-conference team. He has a career singles mark of 95-57 (.625) and is one victory away from tying the all-time Lobo wins record of 96 held by Pepe Caballero. The Osaka, Japan native is the third Lobo in as many years to compete in the NCAA Championships.

Smith went 28-9 this year for the 5th-ranked Duke squad and has 115 wins in his career. The 6-1, 170-pound senior is currently ranked 20th in the nation.
