Itoh Earns Postseason Award

Lobo tennis player selected as the Region 7 Tennis Magazine/Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sportsmanship and Leadership Award winner.

ALBUQUERQUE -- University of New Mexico men's tennis player Takeshi Itoh was selected by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as the Region 7 Tennis Magazine/Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sportsmanship and Leadership Award winner. Itoh will be included in a select group of seven other regional winners to be considered for the national award. If selected, he will be honored at an awards ceremony during the Rolex All-Star Luncheon in New York this September.

A senior from Osaka, Japan, Itoh led the Lobos this season with a 22-9 singles record, while teaming up with Bart Scott for a 19-11 record in doubles. He helped the Lobos to a third-place finish at the Mountain West Conference Tennis Championships with wins over 92nd-ranked Nenad Zivkovic of UNLV and 22nd-ranked and MWC Player of the Year Oliver Maiberger of San Diego State. Itoh was selected to participate in the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships May 22-23 in Atlanta, Ga.
