Men's tennis heads to Malibu in opening round of NCAA Tournament Frogs make 16th-straight appearance
May 3, 2006 FORT WORTH, Texas -- The 32nd-ranked TCU men's tennis team with face 36th-ranked San Diego in the opening round of NCAA Tournament play in Malibu, Calif., the NCAA announced Wednesday. The Frogs (17-9) and Toreros (15-6) will square off Saturday, May 13 (time to be determined), while host Pepperdine (30-2) will face Montana State (15-11). It marks the Frogs 16th-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 21st overall. "I think San Diego and Pepperdine have had a great season," stated TCU head coach Joey Rivé. "I think it is going to be a tough road for us. The guys are excited and based on the way we have been playing as of late, we are going to be a tough team." The Frogs are coming off a dominate performance at the 2006 Mountain West Conference Tournament where the team captured the title with a 4-1 victory over defending champion San Diego State on Saturday. TCU is 4-0 all-time versus San Diego with the last victory coming on Feb. 19, when the Frogs downed the Toreros 4-1 in Fort Worth. Playing its toughest schedule in school history, the Frogs faced 19 ranked opponents during the year and posted a record of 6-2 versus higher-ranked foes. The Purple and White owns a record of 25-20 in the NCAAs and has advanced as far as the national semifinals on three occasions (1989, 1996, 2001).
