COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - All-conference honors for the 2001 season were announced at the conclusion of the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Championship in Salt Lake City. San Diego State sophomore Oliver Maiberger headlined the All-MWC team as the Player of the Year, while BYU's Eric Nyman earned Freshman of the Year honors. Maiberger, Utah's David Mercier and BYU's Gert Vilms and Carlos Lozano were repeat all-conference performers after making the inaugural All-MWC squad in 2000. BYU's Jim Osborne was named Coach of the Year by vote of his peers.

COACH OF THE YEAR --Osborne led his fourth-seeded Cougars to their first MWC title. The Cougars are 14-9 overall and 5-3 versus the MWC. The 13-year head coach earns his first conference title as BYU head coach.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR--Maiberger, a native of Lorsch, Germany, posted a 6-0 record in regular-season conference play at the No. 1 singles position and an 18-match win streak in regular-season play this season. He was a key contributor as the Aztecs went unbeaten in conference play en route to the regular-season MWC title. He also teamed up with Adam Webster for an 11-2 mark in No. 1 doubles play. Maiberger's overall singles record this season is 27-5.

FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR-Nyman, from Upsala, Sweeden, was 12-8 in singles matches this season. He also teamed with Michael Gysens and Matt Stohl to complile an 11-7 overall doubles record.
