April 30, 2009

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference announced its 2008-09 Men's and Women's Tennis Coach of the Year today as voted on by the league's head coaches. The MWC Men's Coach of the Year award goes to New Mexico's Alan Dils, while TCU's Jefferson Hammond was voted MWC Women's Coach of the Year.

Dils, now in his 13th year with the Lobos, guided 41st-ranked New Mexico to the 2009 MWC Men's Tennis Championship title and its 11th overall NCAA Tournament appearance this season. The Lobos finished tied for second with Utah in the regular-season standings with a 4-2 record in league matches and a 20-5 overall mark. This is the second straight season, and fourth overall, Dils has earned league coach of the year honors.

Hammond garnered his second consecutive MWC Women's Coach of the Year accolade after guiding 28th-ranked TCU to a 16-10 overall record and a 7-1 mark in MWC matches during the regular-season. Now in his third season at the helm of the TCU program, Hammond also led the Lady Frogs to the women's tournament title at the 2009 MWC Tennis Championships and their sixth consecutive appearance in next week's NCAA Tournament.
