SAN DIEGO - San Diego State freshman Markus Dickhardt earned Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Freshman of the Year on Wednesday night at the annual awards banquet in San Diego. In addition, three men's players and three women's players earned all-league recognition for SDSU.

On the men's side, Dickhardt was joined by Felix Hardt and Ryan Redondo on the all-conference singles team. The three Aztec players match New Mexico for the most on the 12-person team. Redondo, a two-time All-American was named to the team for the second time in his career, while Hardt earned his third honor. Hardt and Redondo teamed up to earn all-league doubles recognition. The duo was one of just six doubles teams honored.

San Diego State's Dita Hauerlandova and Katalina Romero were named to the women's all-conference singles teams. Romero earned the second all-conference singles honor of her career. She also earned recognition on the Mountain West Conference doubles team with Indra Erichsen.

San Diego State, which claimed both the men's and women's league championships last season, begins play in the Mountain West Conference Championships tomorrow at the Barnes Tennis Center. The Aztec women, seeded fourth, will meet fifth-seeded Colorado State at 2 p.m. PDT, while the third-seeded San Diego State men will face sixth-seeded Air Force at 2:30 p.m. PDT. The championships begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday and continue through Saturday.
