MWC Announces Men's Tennis All-Conference Awards
Air Force's Shannon Buck named Player of the Year
April 26, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference announced its 2005-06 All-Conference team and individual awards for men's tennis today. The MWC awards are selected by the league's seven head coaches. Air Force senior Shannon Buck was named MWC Player of the Year after posting a 28-5 mark this season at No. 1 singles, including a 5-1 record in MWC matches. The school's all-time leader in dual match winning percentage at 92.1 percent (82-7), Buck was ranked 15th in the country on January 10, the highest ranking ever for an Air Force player. Since then, Buck is 17-1 at the No. 1 position. New Mexico's Johnny Parkes earned Freshman of the Year honors after posting a 22-13 record in singles play at the No. 1 and No. 2 position. He was 3-3 in MWC matches this season. San Diego State head coach Gene Carswell garnered MWC Coach of the Year accolades. Now in his third year with the Aztecs, Carswell guided San Diego State to its second straight MWC regular-season title with a perfect 6-0 record in league matches and a 14-7 overall mark. He also led the Aztecs to the MWC Tournament crown last season. Regular-season champion San Diego State had a league-high three singles players on the all-MWC team, followed by BYU, New Mexico and TCU with two each, and Air Force, UNLV and Utah with one apiece.
