Mountain West Conference Announces Men's Tennis All-Conference Team San Diego State's Maiberger named Player of the Year.
April 24, 2002 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - All-conference honors for the 2002 season were announced tonight at the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Championship banquet in Las Vegas. San Diego State junior Oliver Maiberger was named Mountain West Coference Player of the Year, while UNLV's Aviram Saloman earned Freshman of the Year honors. San Diego State head coach John Nelson was named Coach of the Year. Following is the complete list of the 12-member singles team and the six doubles teams as selected by the MWC head coaches. PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Maiberger, a native of Lorsch, Germany, has an overall record of 25-8 on the year (12-4 dual matches) and is the 17th ranked player in the nation. He teamed with Ryan Redondo (No. 3 doubles tandem in the nation) to post an 18-7 record on the season, including a 10-6 mark in dual matches. FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR - Saloman has an overall record of 16-13 (11-7 dual) on the season for the Rebels, including an upset over then-No. 82 Andrew Colombo of Auburn. The Jerusalem, Israel, product finished with a 3-2 record in MWC play.
