Mountain West Conference Announces 2008-09 Men's Tennis All-Conference Awards

New Mexico's Johnny Parkes named MWC Player of the Year

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -

The Mountain West Conference announced its 2008-09 All-Conference team and individual awards for men's tennis today. The MWC awards are selected by the league's seven head coaches.

New Mexico senior Johnny Parkes was named MWC Player of the Year after posting a 26-4 record this season. Currently ranked 79th nationally, Parkes collected a 5-1 record in MWC matches at the No. 1 position and netted three wins against ranked opponents during the 2008-09 campaign.

UNLV's Mehdi Bouras earned MWC Freshman of the Year honors after posting a 17-7 record in singles play this season, including a 3-3 mark in MWC matches at the No. 2 position.
