This Week

The University of Utah men's tennis team will travel to Las Vegas, Nev. for the 2002 Mountain West Conference Championship Tournament. The Utes finished the year with a 14-10 overall record and a 2-3 MWC record. The Utes will look to finish strong as they take on all MWC teams in Las Vegas. Competition will begin on Thur., Apr. 25 and last until Sat., Apr. 27.

Last Match

The University of Utah men's tennis team ended their regular season on a high note by defeating Portland State 7-0 on Thru., Apr. 18. The Utes are 14-10 on the year. Portland State defaulted the three position in doubles and the six position in singles due to a lack of players.

In singles, Nik Yip defeated Portland State's Kapil Desai (6-0, 6-1) at the one position. At the two, Daniel Lohff downed Portland State's Tanner Gates (6-2, 6-2). Tobais Tangberg beat Portland's Chuck Haselwood (6-4, 6-2) at the three. Kiasorn Chaichana downed Portland State's Mark Simpson (6-0, 6-0) at the four and Jonathan Englebrecht defeated Portland State's Cody Hvoersland (6-0,6-1).

In doubles, Mercier/Yip defeated Portland's Desai/Simpson (8-3) at the one position and Carlsson/Poulson downed Portland's Gates/Haselwood (8-2) at the two.
