MWC Weekly Tennis Awards SDSU's Benedikt Stronk and TCU's Helena Besovic net honors
April 19, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State's Benedikt Stronk and TCU's Helena Besovic have been named the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively. A senior from Berlin, Germany, Stronk was 3-0 in singles play last week as he helped the Aztecs clinch the regular-season Mountain West Conference title with wins vs. three ranked opponents. He defeated Graeme Kassautzki (6-4, 7-6[0]) of No. 70 New Mexico, Dominik Kaufhold (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) of No. 75 BYU and Cosmin Cotet (6-2, 6-1) of 33rd-ranked TCU at No. 3 singles. He also teamed with Markus Dickhardt to post a 2-1 mark in doubles play. The 21st-ranked duo is 4-0 this season vs. ranked opponents. A senior from Sarajevo, Bosnia, Besovic was unbeaten last week, going 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 at No. 2 doubles, as she helped the Horned Frogs win the MWC regular-season championship. She defeated No. 92 Iva Gersic (4-6, 6-4, [10-2]) of 52nd-ranked New Mexico, Nikol Dimitrova (6-2, 7-5) of 45th-ranked UNLV and Alesya Vidov (6-1, 6-1) of 32nd-ranked San Diego State to bring her win streak to 15 straight matches. She teamed with Ana Cetnik to post a 3-0 mark in doubles play as the duo has won six straight matches.
