Maiberger Named Mountain West Player Of The Week
Aztec extends winning streak to 18.
April 19, 2001 SAN DIEGO - San Diego State University sophomore Oliver Maiberger was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Players of the Week, April 18. This is the third week in a row Maiberger has received the honor, the fifth time this season, and the seventh time in his career.
Maiberger once again completed a perfect weekend as he posted a 4-0 record in singles and doubles play. The No. 22 ranked player in the country led the No. 59 Aztecs to two wins last weekend. The Aztecs defeated Cal Poly, 5-2, before blanking UC Santa Barbara, 7-0. The Lorsch, Germany native improved his singles win streak to 17 matches by sweeping Cal poly's Brandon Fallon, 7-6, 6-1, and UC Santa Barbara's Marcin Kosakowski, 6-1, 6-4. Maiberger also defeated USD's Mattias Tangegird, 6 -3, 7-6, April 18, to extend his winning streak 18. In doubles play, Maiberger and partner Adam Webster improved to 11-2 on the year. The duo defeated pairs from Cal Poly, 8-2, UC Santa Barbara, 8-6, and USD, 9-7.
The Aztecs are next in action at the Mountain West Conference Championships, April 26-28, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
