Colorado Springs, Colo. ­ BYU freshman Carlos Lozano is this week¹s McLeodUSA Mountain West Conference Men¹s Tennis Player of the Week.

Lozano, from Tlalnepantla, Mexico, went 1-1 in dual matches in the No. 2 position as he defeated Ashley Dyer of Utah (6-3, 6-4) in straight sets, while falling to Corrie Scheepers (6-3, 6-4) of Weber State. He teamed with Anton Rudjuk at No. 2 doubles and won both matches vs. Yip/Zenger of Utah (9-8) and Scheepers/Tran (8-6) of Weber State. This was just the second and third time this season that he has played in the No. 2 position, where he is now 2-1.

Lozano has won 13 of his last 15 single matches and owns a dual record of 27-10 this season. He is also 21-11 in double matches (18-10 with Nic Losee and 3-1 with Rudjuk).

BYU ended the final week of regular season play with a 5-2 loss to Utah and a 6-1 victory over Weber State.

This is the second player of the week award of the season for the Cougars and the first for Lozano.
