Mountain West Conference Announces 2008 Men's Tennis Championship Bracket

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - 2008 MWC Men's Tennis Championship Bracket

Mountain West Conference regular-season tri-champions TCU, New Mexico and Utah enter the 2008 MWC Men's Tennis Championship as the top three seeds after posting identical 5-1 marks in conference play. The Horned Frogs (18-6 overall) won the tiebreaker and captured the top seed by virtue of their No. 36 national ranking, while the 48th-ranked Lobos (18-7 overall) claimed the No. 2 seed by way of their win over the 64th-ranked and third-seeded Utes earlier in the season.

The MWC Championship will be held, April 24-26, at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on the TCU campus in Fort Worth, Texas. Quarterfinal action begins Thursday, April 24, with semifinals on Friday, April 25 and the championship on Saturday, April 26.

UNLV (10-11, 3-3 MWC) finished fourth in the conference standings and earns the No. 4 seed, while BYU (14-11, 2-4 MWC) claims the No. 5 seed. San Diego State (12-11, 1-5 MWC) and Air Force (10-14, 0-6 MWC) round out the bracket as the No. 6 and 7 seeds, respectively.

Action at the 2008 MWC Championship gets underway Thursday, April 24, with No. 3 Utah and No. 6 San Diego State taking the court at 10 a.m. Central Time, followed by No. 2 New Mexico vs. No. 8 Air Force at 1 p.m. CT and No. 4 UNLV vs. No. 5 BYU at 4 p.m. CT. The top-seeded Frogs received a quarterfinal bye and will await the winner of the UNLV/BYU match. Semifinal contests will be played at 10 a.m. CT and 2 p.m. CT on Friday, April 25, with the championship match set for 10 a.m. CT on Saturday, April 26.
