SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore tennis players Oliver Maiberger and Lindsey Hedberg have been selected Mountain West Conference men's and women's players of the week respectively, the league office announced Thursday.

Maiberger's hot streak continued as he went 4-0 in singles and doubles play this past weekend. In singles action, he remains undefeated in the No. 1 spot at 15-0 on the year. The Lorsch, Germany, native defeated Air Force's Eric Pittman, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, and New Mexico's Takeshi Itoh, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. The two singles victories moved him up a notch in the national rankings to No. 21.

In doubles play, he teamed with Adam Webster and posted wins in the No. 1 spot to improve to 8-2 on the season. The duo defeated pairs from Air Force, 8-6, and New Mexico, 9-7. The Aztecs, who were unranked just two weeks ago, moved up to No. 58 this week after defeating Air Force, 7-0, and New Mexico, 4-3. SDSU went 5-0 in conference play this year to capture the regular-season title and enter the league tournament as the No. 1 seed for the second straight time. Maiberger has earned league player of the week honors six times in his career.

Hedberg posted a 5-1 singles and doubles record this past weekend, highlighted by winning eight of her last nine matches and beating a nationally-ranked pair in doubles play. Debuting at the No. 1 spot this past weekend, the Austin, Texas, native defeated Wyoming's Jenny Bowman, 7-6 (4), 6-1, and Colorado State's Morena Jovisic, 6-0, 6-1. Hedberg has gone unbeaten in singles in league play this year.

In No. 1 doubles action, Hedberg and teammate Silvia Tornier soundly defeated San Diego's No. 20-ranked doubles pair of Heather Polumbus and Krista Manning, 8-4. They also posted decisive victories over duos from Wyoming, 8-2, and Colorado State, 8-2. The No. 65 ranked Aztecs defeated conference foes Wyoming, 7-0, and 75th-ranked Colorado State, 6-1, to boost them to No. 52nd nationally.

SDSU's men's team faces Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara on the road this weekend while the women's program finishes its league schedule hosting New Mexico and Air Force.
