UNLV senior Thomas Schneiter has been named Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week. This is his second player of the week award in a row and third of the season.
Schneiter, a Worb, Switzerland native, pulled off the biggest win of his career last week in Malibu, Calif., beating Pepperdine's Al Garland, the nation's No. 1 player. Schneiter, No. 85 in the country, dropped the first set (3-6) before coming back to win the second (6-4) and third set tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), to capture the match and become the first Rebel to beat a No. 1 player since Luke Smith upset TCU's Paul Robinson in 1995. With the win, Schneiter claimed his first career 20-win season and improved his dual-match record to 13-3 on the year.
