COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior Oliver Maiberger has been named Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week. This is the fourth player of the week honor for Maiberger this season and the 12th of his career.
Maiberger recorded a 2-0 record in singles and doubles play on the week, helping No. 35 San Diego State to victories over conference opponents No. 63 BYU and Utah. In the Aztecs 4-3 win over the Cougars, Maiberger beat Erik Nyman at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2. He also teamed with Ryan Redondo (No. 3 duo in the nation) to defeat No. 18 Erik Nyman and Carlos Lozano at No. 1 doubles, 9-7. Against Utah, Maiberger beat Daniel Lohff in three sets (1-6, 6-3, 6-3) at the No. 1 position, and partnered with Redondo to defeat Roeland Brateanu and Nick Coutts at No. 1 doubles, 8-6. Maiberger, the 46th-ranked player in the nation, is 26-8 overall (17-4 dual) in singles play and, with Redondo, is 24-7 overall (14-3 dual) in doubles competition.
