Oliver Maiberger, Fr., San Diego State
San Diego State freshman Oliver Maiberger (Lorsh, Germany) is the McLeodUSA Mountain West Conference
Men¹s Tennis Player of the Week. This is the second player of the week honor for Maiberger and the
fifth men¹s award for SDSU this season.
Maiberger posted three singles and three doubles victories en route to helping the Aztec men¹s team
to a 3-0 record for the week. SDSU posted a 7-0 victory over Denver and 6-1 wins over both
conference foes Utah and UNLV. The SDSU men improved to 13-6 on the season, 3-1 in Mtn. West matches
and No. 28 in the latest ITA Rankings.
Maiberger started the week with a three-set (4-6, 6-1, 6-3) win over Denver¹s Tomasz Wawrzyniak in
the No. 1 position and teamed with Travis Hasson for a 9-8 win over the team of Wawrzyniak/Turkie in
No. 1 doubles. Against Utah, Maiberger claimed a 7-6, 6-4 win over Trevor Ferguson at No. 2 singles.
He capped the week by rallying for a three-set win over UNLV¹s Nenad Zivkovic (4-6, 6-2, 6-2). In
the conference doubles matches, he paired with Valentino Pest for two wins in the No. 2 slot. Listed
No. 67 in the latest national rankings, Maiberger improved to 19-1 overall and 18-0 in dual matches
and stands 13-4 in doubles, 9-2 when playing with Hasson and 2-0 when teamed with Pest.

New Mexico Host of 2000 Mtn. West Men¹s Tennis Championship
The inaugural Mountain West Conference Men¹s Tennis Championship will be hosted by the University of
New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M. All six Mtn. West mens¹ tennis teams will compete in the
single-elimination team event for the first league title April 20-22. Seedings will be decided by
regular-season dual match results in conference matches. All requests for media credentials for the
inaugural Mountain West Conference Men¹s Tennis Championship should be submitted in writing to
Director of Communications Elaine Adams at the Mtn. West office or New Mexico Media Relations
contact Georgette Lombardo prior to the event.
Team-By-Team Notes
After having the first match of its trip to California rained out, Air Force will play on four
consecutive days (Mar. 28-31). BYU dropped to No. 50 in the rankings after losing three matches
during the week. Two doubles teams continue to rank among the nation¹s best Damien Ward and Gert
Vilms are No. 12 this week, while Nic Losee and Carlos Lozano are No. 27. The Cougars travel to Las
Vegas for matches against UNLV and New Mexico Mar. 31 and Apr. 1. New Mexico swept Drake in its only
action of the week and will next play in Las Vegas, facing conference foes BYU and UNLV. Matt
Amgwerd slipped to No. 17 in singles, but climbed to No. 19 in doubles with partner Nic Dubey for
the Lobos. Listed No. 28 in the latest rankings, San Diego State has won seven straight matches,
including 6-1 wins over both conference opponents Utah and UNLV. Two Aztecs have moved into the
singles rankings Alex Waske is No. 33 and Oliver Maiberger is No. 67. The Aztecs will be idle
until Apr. 4. After splitting matches with Mtn. West foes Utah (4-3) and San Diego State (1-6) in
its first home action last week, UNLV will conclude the regular season hosting BYU and New Mexico on
Mar. 31 and Apr. 2. Utah concluded its longest roadtrip of the season with losses to UNLV and SDSU
in Las Vegas during the week. The Utes will host Weber State on Mar. 30 and next play at BYU on Apr.
