COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior Oliver Maiberger has been named Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week. This is the third player of the week honor for Maiberger this season and 11th of his career.
Maiberger posted 2-0 records in both singles and doubles play on the week, helping the 37th-ranked Aztecs to victories over Yale and No. 65 Princeton. He began the week beating Yale's Andrew Rosenfeld in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) at the No. 1 position, and partnered with Ryan Redondo to defeat Rosenfeld and Rowan Reynolds at No. 1 doubles, 8-3. Against the 65th-ranked Tigers, Maiberger beat Trevor Smith, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, and with Redondo, defeated No. 31 Smith and Josh Burman, 8-4. Maiberger, the 32nd-ranked player in the nation, is 21-7 overall (12-3 dual) in singles play this year. He and Ryan Redondo are 21-6 overall (11-2 dual) in doubles play, and are currently the No. 1 duo in the nation.
