New Mexico's Itoh and Colorado State's Sullivan Named MWC Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week Both players garner honor for the first time this season.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of New Mexico senior Takeshi Itoh and Colorado State junior Catherine Sullivan have been selected Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively. Both players earn MWC honors for the first time in their careers. Itoh was undefeated in the No. 1 singles spot at the HEB Collegiate Invite, March 9-11, in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Osaka, Japan, native led the Lobos to a fifth-place overall finish out of 16 teams. His first victory would come against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Antonine Quinguis, 6-3, 6-7, 6-2. His next win was against Texas Tech's Borut Martircevic, 6-4, 6-3. The senior completed the weekend by sweeping No. 100 ranked singles player Jason Pieters of No. 65 University of Louisiana-Lafayette, 6-3, 6-0. The Lobos went 3-0 in the tournament. Itoh is 10-1 in singles play on the year and 6-5 in doubles.
Sullivan was the only Ram to go undefeated in singles play this past weekend. The Repentingny, Quebec, Canada, native swept singles action and has won seven consecutive singles matches in recent play. In No. 6 singles play, Sullivan swept Cal State Fullerton's Jessica Martin, 6-1, 6-2. The Rams won the match 6-1. Against No. 1 ranked Division-II BYU-Hawaii, Sullivan scored the Rams only point in the 1-6 defeat. Against Cal State Sacramento, she allowed only three points in the 6-1, 6-2, sweep, assisting Colorado State to a 4-3 victory. Sullivan polished off the weekend with a 6-1, 6-4, victory over Hawaii's Stacy Hakikawa to aid the Rams in a 5-2 victory. Sullivan went 2-2 in doubles play this weekend and is currently 8-2 in singles play on the year.
