MWC Weekly Tennis Awards UNLV's Kielbowicz and New Mexico's Quintal win honors
Feb. 23, 2005 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV's Joel Kielbowicz and Nora Quintal of New Mexico have been selected the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively. Kielbowicz, a junior from Las Vegas, Nev., helped the Rebels defeat Hawaii last week, 5-2. Kielbowicz has played No. 3 singles all season but stepped up to the No. 2 spot after an injury to a teammate and defeated Bryon Weiberg, 6-0, 6-1. He also teamed with David Campbell at No. 2 doubles and the duo won, 8-4. Kielbowicz has now won 10 of his past 11 matches, while the No. 70 Rebels have won seven straight matches, their best streak since 1997. Quintal, a sophomore from Veracruz, Mexico, helped No. 33 New Mexico win two matches last week, including a win over No. 24 Oklahoma, 6-1. She won all four of her matches last week, including a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles over her Oklahoma opponent. Quintal also teamed with Lucy Scott at No. 3 doubles and the duo won both of its matches as well, including an 8-4 victory over Oklahoma. With their win, the Lobos moved up in the rankings this week to No. 30.
