COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV's Elliot Wronski and Utah's Elizabeth Ferris have been named the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week.

Wronski, a sophomore, posted the biggest win of his young career with a straight-set shocker at the top of the singles' lineup, upsetting 26th-ranked Jakub Cech of Fresno State (6-2, 6-3). A native of Cheltenham, England, Wronski now sports a dual-match record of 4-2 this season (22-9 career). He earned his first-ever national ranking in singles when the Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings were released earlier today, making his debut at the No. 85 spot. This marks the program's highest regular-season individual ranking since Henner Nehles finished at No. 58 in May 2005.

Ferris, a native of Anaheim, Calif., won all three of her singles matches at the No. 1 position last week. The junior took a straight-set match from Weber State's Inalise Pienaar (6-1, 6-0) before taking hard-fought victories over Kansas State's Viviana Yrureta, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), and Kansas' Elizaveta Avdeeva , 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 7-5. The junior also notched a doubles win at the No. 1 position with sophomore Leigh Walsh, defeating WSU's Pienaar and Gabi Venditto, 8-3.
