MWC Weekly Tennis Award
Air Force's Justin Lau and SDSU's Andrea Hermansen win honors
Feb. 9, 2005 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Justin Lau of Air Force and San Diego State's Andrea Hermansen have been selected the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively. Lau, a sophomore, plays No. 4 and 5 singles and No. 3 doubles for the Falcons. In a 4-3 upset of No. 55 Nebraska, Feb. 4, Lau clinched the team victory as he defeated Marcus Karner in three sets at No. 5 singles, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2, to help Air Force to its second consecutive win over a ranked team (No. 73 UC Irvine, Jan. 17). Lau had earlier won at No. 3 doubles with Robby Alexander, an 8-6 decision. The next day, Lau again won both of his matches as Air Force defeated Idaho State, 7-0. He defeated Masimba Okoh at No. 4 singles, 7-6, 6-3, and teamed with Alexander to win at No. 3 doubles, 8-6. Hermansen, a junior, plays No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles for the No. 67-ranked Aztecs. She won all four of her matches and helped San Diego State go 1-1 last week as the Aztecs defeated Texas Tech, 4-3, and narrowly lost to No. 27 Oregon, 4-3. Hermansen defeated Katja Kovacic of Texas Tech, 6-4, 6-3, and beat Jamie Marshall of Oregon, 6-2, 7-6, both at No. 4 singles. In doubles, she teamed with Indra Erichsen to post two wins, 8-4, over Texas Tech, and 9-7 over Oregon. She was the only player for SDSU to win all four of her matches on the weekend.
