Oliver Maiberger * Fr. * San Diego State SDSU freshman Oliver Maiberger is the first-ever Mountain West Conference men's tennis Player of the Week. A native of Frankfurt, Germany, Maiberger made a splash with victories in his first two collegiate singles matches and added a doubles victory despite the Aztec team opening the season 0-3.

Cleared to play just prior to SDSU's conference opener with BYU on Jan. 27, Maiberger debuted in the No. 2 slot and posted a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 victory over BYU's Gert Vilms. Just three days later, he moved to the No. 1 position and claimed a 7-5, 6-2 win over Pacific's Dietrich Hang. Maiberger teamed with Sean Webster in doubles play. The duo suffered a 6-8 loss to BYU's team of Ward/Vilms in their first match together, then defeated UOP's tandem of Abrahamsson/Larsson, 8-5, in their next outing.

Maiberger is now 2-0 in dual matches and overall. He stands 1-1 in doubles action.

Team-by-Team Notes
Air Force has dropped just one point (to Oral Roberts in the first match of the season) en route to claiming five straight wins to open the spring season. Including two matches played in the fall, AFA has lost just two points in dual match play.

Highlighting BYU's season-opening trip to Southern California was the first Mountain West Conference action as the Cougars defeated San Diego State 4-3 on Jan. 27. BYU returned with a 3-1 slate, suffering its only loss at No. 11 ranked USC.

Despite opening the season 0-4, New Mexico boasts the highest ranked individual in the Mtn. West. Matt Amgwerd entered the season listed No. 10 in singles and No. 14 in doubles with partner Nic Dubey.

San Diego State started the season with a 6-1 loss at No. 1 ranked UCLA on Jan. 12. The Aztecs fell to BYU 4-3 in the conference opener, but were pleased with the debut of freshman Oliver Maiberger, who claimed the first Player of the Week honor by posting two singles and a doubles victory.

Off to an 0-3 start, UNLV opened the season facing three top-12 ranked foes, including being the second team from the conference to play at No. 1 UCLA.

The dual match season began on a high note as Utah swept in-state rival Utah State on Jan. 22, however the Utes suffered losses in their last two outings.
