MWC Men's Tennis Weekly Honor New Mexico's Max Jones and BYU's Olga Boulytcheva win award
Feb. 2, 2005 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico's Max Jones and Olga Boulytcheva of BYU have been selected the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively. Jones, a freshman, plays No. 2 and 3 singles and No. 1 and 2 doubles for the Lobos. He won all four of his matches this past week as No. 65 New Mexico lost to No. 21 Washington and defeated No. 55 Michigan State. He won at No. 3 singles against Washington and at No. 2 singles against the Spartans, each by an identical 6-1, 6-3 score. He played No. 1 doubles against Michigan State and No. 2 against Washington and also won each match by an 8-4 margin. He is the only Lobo to start the year 3-0 in dual singles play. Boulytcheva, a junior, plays No. 2 and 3 singles and No. 3 doubles for the Cougars. She won three of her four matches this past week as BYU defeated both Kansas State, 4-3, and Kansas, 7-0. She posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles against the Jayhawks and won, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 3 against Kansas State. She teamed with Sofia Holden at No. 3 doubles against Kansas and the duo won, 8-3.
