Mountain West Conference Announces Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico's Johnny Parkes and TCU's Macall Harkins have been named the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively.

A senior from Southport Merseyside, England, Parkes went a combined 4-0 last week, pacing No. 42 New Mexico to dual-match wins over No. 44 Indiana and No. 75 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Playing at the No. 1 slot in singles, Parkes downed Indiana's Lachlan Ferguson (6-1, 6-4) and Corpus Christi's Mikhail Pavlov (6-4, 6-2). In doubles play, Parkes teamed with Miles Bugby for victories over Indiana's Ferguson and Guy Kubi (8-4) and Texas A&M-C.C.'s Pavlov and Dmitry Novikov (8-5).

Harkins, a senior from Palos Verdes, Calif., tallied a 3-1 overall record as 25th-ranked TCU's went 1-1 in its opening week of the spring season. Playing at the No. 2 singles position, she defeated No. 82-ranked Emily Fraser (Virginia) in three sets (6-1, 5-7, 6-4) and No. 79 Ragini Acharya (William & Mary) in straight sets (7-6, 6-3). In doubles play, Harkins and partner Anna Sydorska beat William & Mary's top tandem of Acharaya and Katarina Zoricic, 8-4.
