Dome Tops Rebels Cal Poly entry downs UNLV entries to win singles and doubles crowns at Rebel Classic.
Nov. 1, 2009
LAS VEGAS - Cal Poly's Andre Dome stole the show on Sunday, downing opponents from host UNLV en route to winning both the single and doubles titles at the annual Rebel Classic, which wrapped up at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Playing in warm, sun-baked conditions on the first day of November, Dome and partner Jordan Bridge opened the morning by getting by the Rebels' top duo of Mehdi Bouras and Luca Barlocchi 8-5 for the doubles crown. After a short rest, Dome took on Bouras for the singles championship and rallied past the super sophomore 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. In the second flight of singles, Arizona's Geoff Embry swept Cal Poly's Brian McPhee 6-3, 6-2. "Overall this was a good tournament to end the fall season," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "We came up a little short in both finals to a solid Cal Poly team but we can take away some positives from this. We'll keep working hard and look forward to the spring season." UNLV is off until hosting a spring invite in January. 2009 REBEL CLASSIC Nov. 1, 2009 At Fertitta Tennis Complex, Las Vegas
