Wronski's Season Ends In Second Round

ATHENS, Ga. - UNLV standout Elliot Wronski saw his season come to a close in the second round of the NCAA tournament victory on Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Wronski, ranked 60th in the nation, was ousted by fifth-ranked Kevin Anderson of Illinois 6-1, 6-3. A native of Cheltenham, England, Wronski dropped to 20-13 overall while Anderson advanced to Friday's Round of 16.

"Elliot did not have a good start but once he got comfortable the match was a lot closer than the score indicated." UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "He had a great year and we're looking forward to getting back here next season."

Wronksi will now work to become just the second Rebel to qualify for three NCAA tourneys in a career, following Roger Pettersson in 1994-96.

"Kevin was pretty good today," Wronski said. "He has one of the biggest serves in college tennis but once I found my game, I pushed him a bit. I feel like I picked up some experience at this tournament and my goal is to become a member of that select group in college tennis who gets to play here three times."
