LOS ANGELES - The 35th-ranked San Diego State men's tennis squad, making its sixth appearance in the NCAA tournament, dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 24 California at Los Angeles Tennis Center on the campus of UCLA Saturday morning.

The Aztecs dropped the doubles point for the first time in nine matches losing at Nos. 2 and 3.

Markus Dickhardt and Eugenio Romero were the first ones off the court as they fell, 8-2, to California's Lennart Maack and Dean Wallace. Later, SDSU stranded Armando Carrascosa and Benedikt Stronk with the pair leading 13th-ranked Conor Niland-Patrick Briaud, 7-5, at No. 1 when Dontia Haynes and Daniel Jung lost, 8-4, at No. 2.

In singles, the Golden Bears jumped out to a commanding 3-0 lead after Stronk and Dickhardt fell in straight sets at the top two positions. But Jung got SDSU on the scoreboard with his 6-2, 6-2, effort over Ken Nakahara at No. 6.

Then with Carrascosa and Haynes trying to put away each of their respective opponents, Christian Groh dropped a 6-3, 6-4, decision to Daniel Sebescen. The win at No. 4, clinched the team victory for California and secured them a spot in the next round.

With the loss, the 2005 Mountain West Conference champion Aztecs end the season with a 17-6 record and see their 13-match winning streak disappear.
